Credits and licences
PlayByPaw is built on other people's work, and we're grateful for it. Here is where the music, the scores, the sound, the images and the fonts come from, and under which licence we use them.
The music
The compositions of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) are in the public domain. The versions you play in the game (melodies, simplifications, hand positions and accompaniments) are transcriptions and arrangements by PlayByPaw.
The piano sound
The game's notes are played with the samples of the Salamander Grand Piano V3 by Alexander Holm, released under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence (CC BY 3.0).
We use a selection of 21 notes (one every three semitones, from A1 to A6) in the MP3 version prepared by the Tone.js project. Changes: in the game the samples are pitched to the other notes, shortened and adjusted in volume.
The source scores
Every piece in the game was transcribed and simplified from a score or a MIDI file. Beethoven's notes are in the public domain; here we list the editions we used as references.

Für Elise, complete version
The notes of the bonus piece were taken from the MIDI file by Bernd Krüger (piano-midi.de, © 2004), released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike Germany licence (CC BY-SA), and checked against the score of the bagatelle (period edition, public domain). The notes of the bonus piece are released under the same licence.
The images
The illustrations of Purrthoven (the portrait at the piano and the avatar) were created with Nano Banana, Google Gemini's image generator, as directed by PlayByPaw.
